Yesterday went for a hike down western light and looked in the bog to see what was in bloom. I sighted my first arethusa bulbosa- Dragon's-mouth Orchid in bloom along with some pitcher plants.
I started the Brier Island Nature Blog to post my photos and write a nature sighting diary for Brier Island. I also wanted to involve my community and tourists that come to our Island to send me their nature sightings so everyone can read and enjoy them. This is a voluntary service to inform the public and my community on the nature sightings in our area at a particuliar time. I also post alot of my pictures and people also send me some of their pictures to post. I enjoy sharing them with everyone so if you would like to post one of my pictures please contact me first. I hope you enjoy reading my blog and get a taste of the natural beauty i experience everyday on our Islands.
I have lived on Long and Brier Island most of my life and I love the natural beauty of our islands and the waters that surround us. I have worked as a stewardship officer of the Brier Island Nature Preserve for the Nature Conservancy of Canada, naturalist guide for many whale watching companies in our area, wrote a book entitled"Brier Island's Wildflower Field Guide", and volunteer for many nature organizations such as: N.S Bird Society, Environment Canada Species at Risk, GOMI-Gulf of Maine environmental youth program.I have won the Bay of Fundy Education and Awareness award and strive to tell as many people of the importance of stewarding and preserving our area for the next generation to enjoy as much as i do.
